  • Overview

    Assist in the environmental protection for a division, in the control of laboratory waste discharge. Implement an agency policy for waste minimization and management. Work entails detailed review of application for authorization to discharge laboratory reagents and related waste from laboratory processes.

    Responsibilities

    • Practical experience in one or more of the following laboratory procedures:
      • Bacterial-Cell-Tissue Culture/Disinfectant with Antibiotics
      • Bacterial-Cell-Tissue Culture/Disinfectant without Antibiotics
      • Blotting Techniques (Western, Southern Northern etc.)
      • Cell Staining/Fixation
      • Column Chromatography
      • DNA/RNA Sequencing/Extraction
      • Flow Cytometry - Cell Analyzer/Cell Sorter
      • Gel Electrophoresis
      • PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)
    • Experienced in the performance of analytical chemistry, biochemistry, instrumental analysis and physical chemistry work

    Qualifications

    • Education:
      • Degree in Chemistry or toxicology
    • Required Knowledge/Experience:
      • Familiarity with State and/or Federal environmental regulations including:Pollution Prevention Act
      • Clean Water Act
      • Resource Recovery Act
      • Local sanitary sewer discharge limits
      • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
      • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving and organizational skills
      • Must be a self-starter with a strong desire to learn new skills
      • Ability to maintain tracking information for easy review
      • Ability to report on progress and issues upon request
    • Preferred Knowledge/Experience:
      • Knowledge of front office operations in federal government agencies
      • Strong interpersonal skills

    Other Responsibilities

    • Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of the department/contract
    • Perform other duties as assigned by Project Manager
